The Sibarist

Casa Martín de Prados

Description

”The critic Santiago Amón noted about Antonio Miró’s work “…it signifies rigour, temper, subtlety (his pencil, always sharp, soft and precise). The creative action presided over by architectural harmony and balance, which shine in linguistic precision, structuring, almost graphic, emphatic at times, sometimes refined, and often oscillating between a restrained informalism and an incalculable symmetry, virtuosic and magical, sure and elegant”.

This magnificent property was designed beetween 1972 and 1973 by the renowned architect Antonio Miró, 2nd Medal at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts and inseparable companion of his professional colleague Fernando Higueras, with whom he carried out numerous projects.

With 1,153 m2 built on a plot of 18 hectares of land, this superb concrete construction combines carpentry of Oregon pine and terracotta tile floors giving uniformity to the whole house, perfectly immersed in the nature of native trees and granite rock typical of the mountains of Madrid.

Although there is a clear influence of Frank Lloyd Wright in his works, Antonio Miró configures his own style, which seeks to give a new meaning to concrete, creating a particularly expressive and organic architecture, far removed from the imposing assumptions of rigid rationalism, and at the same time full of geometric and constructive rigour.

Organic architecture on two levels, pure lines and perfect symmetry with a very modern layout that allows for fluid circulation and linking of spaces, with large windows and sliding doors that open onto the landscape that surrounds the house, 18 hectares that allow maximum privacy and total peace and quiet in communion with nature.

The property is completed with a magnificent south-facing garden, with a swimming pool and changing rooms and a separate house for the caretakers.

Undoubtedly a jewel of Madrid’s contemporary architecture designed by one of its great references, which has remained private and anonymous until it is now being put on the market.

Layout:

We access the main floor from the garden through a beautiful oregon pine door, in line with the rest of the carpentry of the construction, of the same material. Imposing social area in two rooms with a fireplace, without architectural barriers and with views through huge sliding glass doors to the north porch, suspended over a leafy grove with magnificent specimens of juniper, maples, ashes and holm oaks.

The kitchen area with office is located in an independent space, visually connected to the dining room and the south porch with access to the garden. The house has a bedroom, service bathroom and guest toilet on this floor.

In the opposite wing on this same floor, there are five family bedrooms en suite in line, connected through a luminous gallery with access to the perimeter porch of the house, all with dressing room and bathroom en suite and views of the large garden through huge windows.

An avant-garde steel staircase leads to the open-plan upper floor with living area, office and guest bedroom with en suite bathroom and two terraces with infinite views.

On the ground floor, with access to a large porch, there is a living area, games room, wine cellar and an accessory bedroom with en suite bathroom.

A separate house for the caretakers and the changing rooms for the swimming pool complete this magnificent property, with a very large garage under the roof and various storage areas. It is worth mentioning the careful landscaping work that surrounds the construction, which ensures that the vegetation is present in the porches and galleries, blending in with the surrounding granite stone and the concrete material in perfect harmony.
