Description
Right on the same street as Menorca’s market square, we find this unique house from 1870 that exudes authenticity. Inside, a large courtyard with climbing vines, an outdoor swimming pool sheltered by a vaulted ceiling and several terraces maintain its traditional charm and Mediterranean spirit. It also has a shop with evocative vintage illustrations hanging on the walls. All these features make this building the perfect summer retreat, or even an intimate boutique hotel.
It is not easy to find a property intact over time and located in one of the most beautiful streets in the heart of the old town of Ciudadela. A magical place where you can enjoy the history that surrounds you, the local gastronomy, and the quiet and luminous unspoilt beaches that this peaceful island has to offer.
Menorca has become the new focus of both national and foreign investment for many reasons. As the third most populated of the Balearic Islands, it is also the best preserved and conserved in a sustainable way with its natural environment. This natural attraction is complemented by a vibrant cultural life, which has a dizzying fascination for locals and visitors alike. The ideal last Mediterranean bastion for lovers of the authentic.
Layout:

The market square of Ciutadella, also known as “Sa plaça des Peix”, has a special charm. Perhaps this is due to the life it exudes, which makes it one of the most atmospheric spaces in the city. It was built between 1868 and 1869, at the same time that the city wall was being demolished. Today, it is the only example of iron architecture in Menorca.
Inside, the butcher’s shops are all together under the iron forging and the white and green roof tiles. In front of them, the fishmongers protect their fresh fish under a structure of the same material. The U-shaped arcades are full of people, traders and stalls where you can find vegetables, bread, cheese and local sausages.
This is the nerve centre of the island. The ideal place to sit down for a coffee and marvel at the spectacle of Menorcan life with all your senses. In the same square you can try the excellent churros with chocolate at Can Rafa, as well as all kinds of tapas such as “serranito”. Another of the local classics is Ulisses, open from breakfast to cocktails; S’Aguait, where customers can ask for their fish bought at the market to be cooked for them.
The four-storey building was built in 1870 and retains all its original features such as the four-pointed vault with marés stone, wooden beams and antique terracotta floors. It has a large and unique courtyard with a swimming pool protected under a porch with original beams, an outdoor area with vegetation and another covered porch ideal as a gazebo, as well as two terraces on the upper floors with views of the heart of the city. It is a listed building which could be restored as a boutique hotel.
