On August 12, a total solar eclipse will pass over Spain, turning the sky into the setting for one of the summer's most extraordinary phenomena.
For a few minutes, the Moon will completely cover the Sun, and the eclipse will be visible from various locations across the country. Since the eclipse will occur very close to sunset, choosing the right location will be key to enjoying it with good visibility. From Galicia to Mallorca, we’ve selected six destinations located within the path of totality and with open horizons facing west. This route traverses the Atlantic coast, the interior of the peninsula, and the Mediterranean as the eclipse progresses.
Galicia: the First shadow over the Atlantic
The Galician coast will be one of the first places on the Peninsula to be cast in the Moon’s shadow. Totality will occur around 8:28 p.m., when the Sun is still somewhat high above the horizon. Capes, open beaches, and west-facing viewpoints will allow you to watch as the light of the Atlantic fades for just over a minute.
