19th century manor house in Lanzarote

Also avaialble for: Travellers

Description

This charming accommodation in Lanzarote occupies a 200 year old manor house located in the centre of the village of Haría, in a valley full of palm trees. It is like a natural oasis within the arid landscape of this mountainous area in the north of the island, close to a cliff overlooking the sea at a height of more than 600 metres and with a length of 10 kilometres.

This house, popularly known for the 30 orange trees that grow in its terraced gardens, which are staggered towards the façade, was for generations the property of the same family, until its current owner, a civil engineer from Zamora who lives in Madrid, decided to convert it into a unique hotel.

During a holiday trip to Lanzarote, the future hotelier discovered the house and, although he was unable to visit the inside, the images in the advertisement and the plans were enough to awaken his vision: to transform this semi-ruinous construction into a place full of beauty and authenticity. With the approval of the town council of Haría and the Cabildo of Lanzarote, he acquired the property and started a complete renovation project.

The building, listed as a Monumental Asset by the Heritage Register of the Cabildo, had serious structural damage: collapsed wooden ceilings, cracked stone walls and woodwork attacked by woodworm.

The intervention was carried out in two phases, to consolidate the structure and prevent its collapse, and later to adapt the house to its new hotel use, always with the utmost respect for its history, maintaining the original spaces, materials, shapes and colours.

Today, the hotel occupies a plot of 1,200 m², with a 600 m² building distributed over two floors arranged around a central courtyard. Its refurbishment has respected traditional materials such as wood, stone and lime, restored using traditional techniques to preserve the original essence of the building. Most of the floors and woodwork have been respected and the historic colours of the walls have been recovered.

This boutique hotel has 8 rooms of different types that maintain the same decorative style based on the authenticity of the original materials and antique furniture or furniture made on site with antique wood. It has: a double room with the possibility of an extra bed (for 3 people); a quadruple room with the possibility of an extra bed (for 5 people); another quadruple room (for 4 people); two double rooms (for 2 people, respectively); and three double rooms with the possibility of an extra bed (for 3 people each).

The kitchen, living room, dining room, courtyard, library, orange garden and large terrace maintain their original design so that guests can enjoy a 19th century manor house with the charm it has always had. The hotel’s style, romantic and decadent, features furniture mostly purchased in antique shops in Madrid and from various corners of Europe, complemented by original pieces from the house and furniture made in situ with reclaimed wood: headboards, desks, side tables and lamps that give character and warmth to each room. The high ceilings, large windows and the presence of large plants contribute to create an elegant atmosphere.

The decoration and the natural surroundings combine to transport guests to another era without sacrificing comfort and exclusivity. From its privileged location in the centre of Haría, just 40 minutes from the airport and surrounded by volcanic landscapes and local culture, the hotel invites you to discover activities related to the mountains, the sea, gastronomy and history.

Thanks to this effort of heritage recovery, aesthetic sensitivity and commitment to authenticity, the Government of the Canary Islands has awarded the establishment the category of Emblematic Hotel and it enjoys distinction in the Michelin guide, which recognises its uniqueness and historical value. Today, La Casa de los Naranjos has not only recovered its former splendour, but has become a symbol of good taste and respect for the architectural memory of Lanzarote.

The hotel offers a carefully selected range of services, including free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, room service, restaurant, bar, library and lounge. Guests also have free parking, shuttle service, luggage storage and a garden. Breakfast is included and is prepared daily à la carte. The hotel is 100% smoke-free and pet-friendly, making it possible to enjoy family travel, even with the little ones, thanks to the availability of cots (on request) and babysitting on request. For sports lovers, there is a golf course nearby.

This layout not only preserves the original functionality of the house, but also reinforces the connection between the interior and the exterior landscape, planted with orange trees and garden terraces.
