A refuge in an old bakery in Alcácer do Sal

Also avaialble for: Filming and Events

Description

This villa is a former bakery transformed into a warm and cosy retreat on a quiet cobbled pedestrian street near the Sado River in Alcácer do Sal. This Alentejo town is considered to be one of the oldest cities in Europe as it was founded by the Phoenicians before 1000 BC.

On the outside, the façade and thick walls of the building respect the traditional construction of the Alentejo village houses, while inside, the powdered pink walls and the aged oak floors provide a cosy and high quality ambience.

The house is detached and has an area of 80 square metres and sleeps four people in 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. With a traditional gable roof, it is spread over two levels and has a side patio which is perfect for a morning coffee before enjoying a day on the nearby beaches or visiting charming fishing villages such as Comporta or Melides.

Alcácer do Sal is a historic town overlooking the river Sado.
Its medieval town developed from neighbourhoods surrounding an ancient Muslim castle. Do Sal (salt in Portuguese) refers to Alcácer’s importance in the Iberian salt trade. The town has a wonderful seafront promenade lined with cafés and restaurants, with Comporta being the nearest town. This former fishing village has been transformed into a charming seaside town full of shops and modern restaurants. Lisbon is only 45 minutes away by car.

Every object in the house has been carefully selected and consists of Italian and Scandinavian design furniture and furnishings made from fine materials, such as leather chairs from Cassina. The sheets and towels by Libeco are made of top quality Belgian linen. There are accessories from brands such as Vipp and a selection of Japanese and Portuguese ceramics, mixed with vintage objects and lamps by Davide Groppi, and original works of art hang on the walls.

On the ground floor, on one side of the staircase, there is a bedroom with en-suite bathroom and, on the opposite side, is the second bedroom, with separate bathroom. Both bathrooms are spacious and have a shower. The third bedroom has shelves and hangers where you can unpack your suitcase.
