Description
The house is located in Briteiros, a picturesque village within the mountainous valley of the river Ave, which contrasts modernly with the nearby archaeological site, known as the Citania de Briteiros. This was home to an ancient Celtic community of some 1,000 inhabitants, called the Castros, who occupied the area between 200 BC and 300 AD. Today, the archaeological site offers the opportunity to explore stone ruins and fortifications, allowing you to discover a little known but fascinating culture.
A short distance away is Braga, a small town considered to be the religious heart of Portugal. It is home to the country’s first cathedral, as well as numerous temples, Gothic and Baroque architecture, large squares and a vibrant university community. The city of Guimarães, known as the birthplace of Portugal, is also within easy reach, as it was here that the country’s first king was born. Guimarães, a walled city declared a World Heritage Site, has narrow medieval streets adorned with granite balconies, arched passages, palaces and noble mansions.
The city of Porto, famous for its port wine houses and lively tasting rooms, is only a 45-minute drive from the villa.
The route to the city passes through green mountains and quiet country roads, surrounded by small farming communities. In addition, all amenities, such as cafés, restaurants and wine cellars, are available in the vicinity of Braga and Guimarães.
This villa for rent in Portugal is composed of adjacent rectangles that form the rooms of the house, a sophisticated space with an urban feel that blends harmoniously into a rural landscape. Accent walls in a bright white colour extend from the geometric volumes of the house, creating boundaries of privacy that delineate both the front garden and the backyard terrace. At the rear, an outdoor dining area is located next to a swimming pool.
The villa’s 250 square metre design is modern and modular, with a sleek contemporary style. It stands on 18,000 square metres of wooded grounds in the Portuguese countryside, less than an hour’s drive from the bustling medieval city of Porto.
Inside the larger module, the rear façade, fully glazed from floor to ceiling, gives the space a decidedly modern appeal. Large, hinged glass doors pivot towards the rear courtyard, lawn and swimming pool. The rear garden is screened by whitewashed privacy walls on two sides. The common room is light and airy, with a large library and a contemporary fire place without a fireplace. The furniture is clean-lined and made of chrome, glass and leather in a mid-century modern style, all set on polished concrete floors. The colour red predominates as an accent colour, highlighted by a flame-red supporting pillar in the living room, as well as appearing in artwork, decorative details and rugs.
The kitchen integrates seamlessly into the open plan living space, being another of the modular features of the house. It is an ultra-stylish kitchen with a custom-built design. The cooktop, sink and worktop space can be closed off by three innovative folding doors, which function as partitions between the kitchen and the open plan dining area.
The smaller cube of the villa houses the sleeping area, which includes three bedrooms and their bathrooms. One of the bedrooms has a freestanding bathtub for soaking at the foot of the king-size bed. The bedrooms are austerely furnished in keeping with the modern aesthetic of the house, decorated in a minimalist fashion with contemporary art pieces and rugs resting on polished concrete floors.
The bathrooms, complete with showers, are constructed of raw concrete and are equipped with rain showers and spacious washbasins.
Outside, an elongated swimming pool extends from the living room windows into the rear garden. A whitewashed privacy wall separates the pool and rear terrace from the front garden and a gently sloping hill of lawn extends into the wooded area of the grounds. In this natural setting, the waters of a stream can be heard and dense shrubs and trees give the villa its character of a country retreat.
