A woodland and dehesa estate, in the vicinity of Chapinería, Community of Madrid, with a tree cover of holm oaks and junipers for the most part. On the banks of the Hoyones stream we can see ash and white poplars, some hawthorn and cornicabra, which tinge the grey of autumn with gold and maroon. The shrubs are mainly rockrose and broom. It is a land of aromatic herbs: lavender, marjoram, santolina, rosemary, gorse and rue. When it rains, the countryside becomes a symphony of powerful, clean smells. In spring there are peonies, three types of orchids and fields of asphodel, lupine, mallow, daisies and poppies… and a host of small flowers: marigold, selene, viola, myosotis, pelargonium, hypericum ……
In autumn you can pick mushrooms: boletus, macro lépiota procera, blue foot, mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, and hedgehogs. In winter, watercress can be found in the stream, and in spring, corojas and wild asparagus.
The Hoyones stream feeds a reservoir that dates back to Roman times. The remains of the medieval dam and the ruins of the mill that used to grind all the cereals in the area can still be seen. In 1970 the dam further upstream was rebuilt, which today supplies the house with irrigation water using plates.
