Destinations to enjoy the Perseids this summer

Your next getaway: see stars skimming the sky. As every summer, the famous Tears of San Lorenzo have already arrived. We tell you when and where to see the most awaited star shower of the year.

This year, the Perseids will begin to be seen from July 17 and will last until August 24. The peak of activity takes place on the nights of August 11-13. It is estimated that on those nights there will be between 60 and 100 shooting stars every hour and could reach 200, although it will depend on the weather and the place where we are.

The Perseids or also called the Tears of Saint Lawrence because August 10 is celebrated as the saint’s day, are one of the four main meteor showers of the year: Quadrantids (December), Lyrids (April), Aquarids (July) and Perseids (August).

These magical shooting stars are a shower of meteors, small dust particles of different sizes released by comets or asteroids orbiting the Sun.

THE BEST PLACES TO SEE THE PERSEIDS

The certification system created by the Starlight Foundation allows to qualify the spaces that have an excellent sky quality and that represent an example of protection and conservation. There are different types of certifications; for example, a Starlight Reserve is a protected natural area where a commitment to the defense of the quality of the night sky and access to starlight is established.

Likewise, Starlight Tourist Destinations are places that can be visited, which have excellent qualities for contemplating the starry skies and developing tourism activities based on them, and Starlight Accommodations are establishments with ideal conditions for astro-tourism.

  • We have selected a series of traditional haciendas in the north of the island of Tenerife. Some of them even date back to the 17th century. All of them have been restored or built from scratch with the utmost respect for their history and the traditional constructions of the island. The aim is to transport the guest to the maximum comfort.

This collection of Haciendas are located in protected natural places, even in remote and privileged spots by the sea, where the first thing our eyes see is the immensity of the ocean and the first and last sound of the day is the breaking of the waves on the cliffs. All this surrounded by lush tropical gardens where banana plantations reach their peak.

Accommodations where you can disconnect from the first minute. A perfect symbiosis between nature, architecture and the sea.
