“Thinking the City” from September 25 to October 4 2024
“Thinking the City” is the result of our first call for artists and calls for emerging artists who, through their work, reflect and dialogue on the contemporary city. The exhibition will be held at El Invernadero.
On the occasion of Architecture Month and within the framework of the Madrid Architecture Festival, Madrid Open House Madrid and COAM’s Architecture Week, ART U READY presents the group exhibition “Thinking the City”, the result of our 1st call for artists, which was open from May 15 to June 20 and in which we received a total of 189 applications. It far exceeded all our expectations, also because of the very high level of all the proposals.
The initiative of our art platform aims to give voice to visions that offer a new reading of urban landscapes and societies.
We have an exceptional jury: asun rodríguez montejano, curator; Elba Benítez, Elba Benítez gallery; Carlos Garaicoa, artist; Javier Aparicio, El Chico gallery; Paco de Blas, cultural manager; Carlos Álvarez, editor Piece with Artist and Silvia Hengstenberg, ART U READY and The Sibarist.
The selected works challenge and deepen urban compression, using techniques such as painting, photography, sculpture, video creation, digital art and also performance, or hybridizations of the above.

In this first edition, we will have a guest artist (out of competition), who will act as host of the new talents. The chosen artist is Bárbara Pérez (Spain, 1977).

Opening: Wednesday, September 25, from 7 to 10 pm.

From September 25, the exhibition will be open for visits from 11 am to 7 pm (closed Sunday).

About asun rodríguez montejano
Architect and urban planner by the ETSAM-UPM, with studies at the Facoltá de Architettura di Torino and at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in subjects related to the city. She taught at the Department of Urban and Territorial Planning of the ETSAM-UPM between 2000 and 2010. His career unfolds in big business until 2019, when he founds urbanAlibi, an office that combines urban planning and urban landscape practice, with consultancy to add value to companies and a cultural activity that reflects, disseminates and promotes artistic practices committed to today’s cities.

EL INVERNADERO
Its origin dates back to the mid-19th century. It is believed to have been built by a great lover of botany, the Marquis of Casa Jimenez. Located in the courtyard of what was his residence, a stately building from the beginning of that century, its two large chestnut trees bear witness to its past. Converted today into a contemporary space, El Invernadero preserves its original iron structure, grayish in color and with a markedly French air. It is the headquarters of the real estate boutique The Sibarist where they also hold events of prestigious firms and their ART U READY exhibitions.
